What It's Like to be a Proofreader

If you've ever wondered what it's like to be a writer, editor or proofreader, wanted to know what it entails, then you'll be pleased to know you can find out.

In addition to learning the subtleties involved in checking a manuscript, you'll also learn - perhaps for the first time - the 'side-effects' of the job, like not even being able to order lunch without the editorial hat perched upon your cranium.

A humorous, but very true, article can be read here.

The Importance of Time Management

I would imagine that anyone who works for themselves will agree that time management is a big obstacle to productivity. Sometimes the Internet is too alluring and suddenly half the day has disappeared, and sometimes you get so focused on one project that you overlook all the other things you have to do. The Day The Fic Exploded - By Lissa Bryan

*This is a guest post by Lissa Bryan. To be in with a chance of winning a copy of Ghostwriter, simply leave a comment below.*

I’d always written stories in my head, including re-writing books and movies to have the plot or ending I thought they deserved, or sending the characters on new, fantastic journeys. And I had no idea anyone else in the world did this.

In it, no one really liked Dorothy and the Wicked Witch was actually a tragically misunderstood heroine. The Ruby Slippers were one of three magical items she needed to collect to break Glenda’s evil spell enslaving the Munchkins. Unfortunately, pretty girls can get away with anything and Dorothy believed Glenda’s side of the story.

What inspired you to be a writer?
I’d always been a writer, I just didn’t know it. I always wrote books and stories in my head, and I’d always re-written books and movies to have a plot I liked better. I had no idea others did this as well until I discovered fanfiction.
